Sleep problems and insomnia

Sleep disturbances are among the most prevalent psychopathological disorders, especially among young adults. These disturbances can be induced by various causes, such as depressive symptoms, anxious ruminations, taking medications, hormonal changes (such as during adolescence or menopause), or by medical conditions such as sleep apnea, paradoxical sleep disorders, or as a direct consequence of the consumption of toxic substances.

They can manifest in different ways, such as difficulty falling asleep, waking up at night, waking up early in the morning and not being able to go back to sleep, daytime sleepiness, mental fatigue, long naps during the day, and decreased quality of sleep.

The consequences of these disorders can be devastating, impacting quality of life, motivation, cognitive functions (such as slowing), decision-making, and reducing attentional abilities, among others.

I offer cognitive behavioral therapies targeting insomnia symptoms and daytime sleepiness. This treatment has demonstrated solid evidence of effectiveness in improving sleep quality, duration, and daily functioning ( Lopez, R., 2017. Evaluation of the effectiveness of a French cognitive-behavioral therapy program for insomnia online (Therasomnia®) and should be  first intention treatment before medication. This therapy relies on cognitive restructuring of dysfunctional thoughts, psychoeducation about sleep functioning, as well as behavioral and environmental changes to reduce insomnia symptoms.
